A lady, temitope and her boyfriend have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos Police Command over an attempt to strangle to death a 80-year-old man inside the Alaketu of Ketu Palace, Lagos.
The incident which occured on Tuesday night right inside the Palace, saw the Eleku of ketuland, Pa Bello escaped death by the whiskers as he battled with the female assailant who had tied an electric wire round the neck of the 80 years old man while he was asleep.
Narrating his ordeal,Chief Lateef bello said he was lying on the bed at around 9pm just few minutes after her daughter left him to her residence when someone entered the room and sat on the bed.
" My daughter had just helped me warm soup and she left for her residence.
"I was lying on the bed when someone entered,sat on the bed, grabbed my neck and put wire round my neck, I began to struggle with the wire with my two hands and at the same time began to shout for help. All the while there was no light and in the compound the generator was being was used to pump water.Luckily for me , the generator went dead and people outside were able to hear my cry for help .It was at that time that my assailant, who I figured to be a female left me and ran away.
"The wire was still on my neck , and blood has started oozing from my mouth".
Chief Bello, who was visibly in pained had bandage round his neck as at the time of narrating his near death ordeal, added that the kinship tussle in ketu land must have been the likely reason that prompted the attempt on his life as aggrieved party are out to cause chaos in ketu.
Meanwhile, one of the people who came to the rescue of the 80 -year- old man, a resident of the Palace, Prince Rasheed Adesanya said " All the time that we are choosing new king, first, we would go to court. Currently there is a case in the court between Prince Babajide Adekoya Adefowora and Akeem Oluwo, Agbo Ketu.
"The town has chosen Prince Babajide Adekoya Adefowora but Akeem was not satisfied. It is only one ruling house that is entitled to the Alaketu's throne in ketuland. That is the Oshokeji Atesimara. uling house. We have not heard it in the history of ketuland that Adeona ascended the stool
" On what happened on Tuesday, I was at the backyard and the generator was on and I later went in to receive call. I rushed out when the generator suddenly stopped to check what went wrong when I heard Eleku's cry for help.
" I rushed to his room, as I entered, I perceived odour of cigarettes. I met chief Bello on the floor with wire tied around his neck, Baba was crying that " they want to kill me, they want to kill me. That it was a lady. I didn't have my phone with me then,I would have snapped baba on the floor with the wire on his neck . I quickly loose the wire on his neck and began to search the room. The gate was locked and nobody could get out. We began to search and we went upstairs. We met a lady called Tope. She was smoking. I asked her " what are you doing here? You want to tell me that you are not aware of all what going on? I asked her.
"She answered that she was not aware of anything. She has a boyfriend that she usually come to meet here. I called three other people and they came before her boyfriend's arrival, The boyfriend came late and when he arrived he informed us that the lady didn't tell her that she was coming to the Palace and said they haven't seen each other that day. But the other boys corroborated that they seen the duo together on that day. Tope and her boyfriend are now in Police custody. They both denied knowledge of the incident. While searching around, we discovered that a electric wire that was cut and it was the same with the one the assailant wanted to use to strangle the old man.
"We took baba to hospital and he is recuperating very well. We cannot pinpoint the incident to anybody yet, or say it is the aggrieved party as a result of the kinship tussle that are behind it until the arrested suspects especially tope disclosed who sent her on the deadly errand".
Another witness to the incident, Samuel Taiwo in his narration stated "I was the one taking care of Baba Eleku with her daughter. On that day, after her daughter had left Baba went in to his room.
"We were pumping water using the generator in the compound and all of a sudden the generator went off and we heard Baba's cry for help. The lady, Tope usually come here. I don't know what she does for living. If not for the generator that stopped working she would have succeeded in killing the old man.
"We we rushed to Baba's room we perceived cigarettes odour. There was no way for her to get out of the Palace. We searched and saw her upstairs smoking and we alleged her of wanting to kill the old man. We could not take laws into our hands .
"On close examination of the surroundings, we discovered that she cut part of the electric wire in the Palace. We compared it with the one she strangled Baba with, it was same and the mark of where she cut the wire was new and visible.
"She and her boyfriend are now with the police" Taiwo.concluded.
The Oba- elect, Alaketu of Ketuland cries for help and protection
Following the near death escape of the Eleku of Ketuland, Chief Bello Lateef from strangulation by one alleged suspect, named Tope caught in the Palace around 9pm on Tuesday night, The Alaketu of Ketuland Oba - elect, Prince Adekoya Babajide Adefowora has cried out to the Government and Nigerians to save him from unwarranted threats.
In a voice note received by Newslife from the Oba elect based in abroad, he narrated how his Late Father, Oba Adeyemi Adedayo Adefowora was murdered in I999 in Abule Egba ,Lagos.
" My name is Prince Adekoya Babajide Adefowora. The son of Late Oba Adeyemi Adedayo Adefowora. He was murdered November 9, 1999 in Abule Egba Awori Bus Stop, No 43, Arowolo street.
" I ahm crying out this afternoon to speak to government , Nigeria people should come out and help me. This is getting out of hand. The same way they killed my Dad. Baba Eleku who came out during the time we went to court , because the case is already in court.
" Now, They are trying to murder Baba. He nearly got killed four days ago in the Palace.
" The Old man was sleeping while a lady came into the room with a wire round he hand and she tried to strangle manhh while he was sleeping and the generator was on and that time we didn't even know what was while the generator was on, but it suddenly went off.
" We heard heard Baba's voice.while Baba was shouting" someone wants to kill me 2ce. Someone ran into his room and saw baba on the floor with wire round his neck. I am calling for help, Myself, I have been trying to make my way to Nigeria, but all because so called man, Akeem. He wants to become King with all his power. He has been trying everything to become a King and he is not from royal family. There has never been a time where his family has been crowned as King of the town. It has never happened.Is so called Uncle had been to Supreme Court during my Dad's reign. There is only one Ruling House. Now, he wants to turn it around.Please, I am begging everyone. Please help me. Please, I need your help. This old man nearly died. They nearly killed him. He was bleeding from his mouth. We need to rush him to the hhhospital. Please help me. I need your help. Nigerians I need your help. Thank you very much. The Oba elect concluded in a solemn voice.
