CUPP ALLEGES FRESH PLOT BY PRO-WIKE LAWMAKERS TO DESTABILISE LGA ELECTION AND SABOTAGE SUPREME COURT'S JUDGMENT

- RAISES ALARM OVER PLANS TO REINSTATE FORMER LGA CHAIRMEN

- DECLARES BID TO STOP BUDGET PRESENTATION WILL FAIL

THE Coalition of United Political Parties, CUPP, has again spoken against some unpleasant actions allegedly by those the number one opposition Coalition in the country described as "antidemocratic miscreants" in Rivers State.

In a Press Release signed by its national Spokesperson, Comrade Mark Adebayo, the CUPP in a statement released this Monday raised multiple alarms on the continued crisis in the oil-rich Niger Delta state.

"The CUPP will not rest in our pro-democracy advocacy until sanity is totally restored in Rivers state,  Supreme Court's Judgment obeyed one hundred percent, and peace is allowed to reign in Rivers State. The plot by the pro-Wike lawmakers to sabotage the pending local government elections slated for August this year has been exposed to us.

"The plot is majorly designed around making illegal amendments to the state's local government laws which will enable the former LGA Chairmen whose tenures have long expired to be illegally reinstated all in a bid to sabotage the Supreme Court's Judgment on the matter. These are some of the relentless illegalities being committed by sponsored antidemocratic miscreants in the service of enemies of our democracy and rule of law.

"It would be a sad day for democracy and the rule of law if such a sacrilege is allowed to happen in Rivers State or any state for that matter in Nigeria. The Supreme Court is the final authority on all matters of litigation and its constitutional status cannot be allowed to be undermined or ridiculed by shameless and lawless political jobbers and their paymasters.

"They are hellbent on frustrating the presentation of the 2025 appropriation Bill by His Excellency, Governor Similayi Fubara, despite all his peace overtures and official communications to the lawmakers who have consistently displayed arrogant disrespect for the judgment of the Supreme Court of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This is not  a totalitarian regime where anyone can trample the law anyhow without recourse. Democracy entails civilized conduct predicated strictly on the rule of law by public officers and citizens alike. Therefore, their desperate ploy to frustrate the budget presentation will also fail. Their shenanigans cannot withstand the wish of the overwhelming majority of Rivers State people who have stood in solid solidarity with Governor Fubara.

"As the main opposition megaphone in Nigeria, CUPP remains committed to speaking truth to power and upholding the fundamental tenets of Nigeria's democracy and the rule of law in defence of all that is in the interests of Nigeria and its citizens".
